Welcoming two Trustees to The Solicitors’ Charity Board

The Solicitors’ Charity is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Trustees, Audrey Ludwig MBE and Edel Smith, who bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the charity’s Board. Audrey and Edel will strengthen the Board’s collective expertise in law, finance, and governance to ensure that the charity continues to serve the profession with compassion, integrity, and insight. 

Audrey Ludwig MBE

Audrey qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and has extensive experience in equality law, having practiced in the field from 2006 to 2024. She is the founder of Suffolk Law Centre, a pioneering organisation providing access to justice for those who need it most. In recognition of her commitment to equality law, Audrey was awarded an MBE in June 2025. 

Today, she runs Audrey Ludwig Training and Consulting Ltd, where she delivers training to many different groups, including lawyers, advice workers, midwives, the Independent Office of Police Conduct, and people with disabilities. In addition to her consultancy work, Audrey is also a respected lecturer and writer, sharing her insights through articles on equality law to promote better understanding. 

Audrey’s deep commitment to justice and inclusion aligns closely with The Solicitors’ Charity’s mission to support solicitors and their families in challenging times. 

Edel Smith

Edel Smith is a Chartered Accountant and currently works as Head of Finance & Investments at the Bank Workers Charity. She brings with her extensive experience in both the charity and corporate sectors, with a strong focus on financial management, governance, and strategic planning.

Before moving into the charity sector in 2019, Edel held several senior finance roles in the insurance industry, including with Legal & General, GE, Genworth, and AXA. Her financial expertise will be invaluable in supporting the trustees of the Charity in their financial governance and oversight responsibilities. Edel’s proven track record in delivering strong financial stewardship and her passion for supporting the wellbeing of professional communities make her a natural fit for the charity’s Board.
