International Day of Charity: A Month Supporting the People Behind the Legal Profession
Behind the late-night emails may be someone trying to hold everything together. Behind the calm advice given to clients may be worries about their own home, family, money, or health. Behind the person others rely on may be someone who needs support too.
International Day of Charity is an important moment to recognise the role charities and support organisations play. For The Solicitors’ Charity, that work is too important to focus on for just one day. Throughout September, we will shine a light on the people behind the profession, the support available to them and the collective effort that makes our work possible.
Behind every solicitor is a person
Solicitors spend their working lives helping others through pressure, uncertainty and life-changing moments. But, professional confidence does not make anyone immune from illness, financial worries, family responsibilities, career uncertainty or emotional strain. These challenges are not always visible, and they rarely happen in isolation.
Supporting the whole person
For 168 years, The Solicitors’ Charity has supported solicitors and their dependants when life takes an unexpected turn. Our Case Managers provide confidential, tailored support for emotional, physical, professional, and financial wellbeing, helping people find a practical way forward, one step at a time.
Behind the support is a charity that cares
This work is made possible by Case Managers, specialist partners, donors, Firm Friends, law societies, firms and individuals across the profession. A referral can help someone find us sooner. A shared message can show a colleague where to turn. A donation or partnership can help keep support available. Each action may feel small – together, they create lasting impact.
Play your Part this September
Throughout the month, we will celebrate the work of The Solicitors’ Charity and highlight the different ways people and organisations can support it. That includes raising awareness, referring someone who may need help, becoming a Firm Friend, making a donation or turning residual client balances into meaningful support.
