Making an enquiry.

Our process starts with a confidential conversation to learn more about you and what you need.

More than money.

We’re best known for offering financial support, but this is not the only thing we do. We know from long experience that solicitors in need or crisis often have multiple worries, unique to each person.

We want to have a tailored conversation with you, to help assess your needs and how we can best offer you support.

Start your enquiry.

Fill out the enquiry form in confidence.

After our tailored conversation, you may be referred immediately for support (eg. for money management, welfare benefits advice or mental health assessment).  We can also signpost you to other specialist organisations.

If we believe you are eligible for financial support, we will ask you to complete the next stage of our process, which is to make a full application.

If you have submitted an online enquiry or application via our portal please do regularly check your Junk and spam folders for our acknowledgement and for further correspondence

The Solicitors’ Charity has certain exclusions in place on who and how it can help.

We regret The Solicitors’ Charity can’t offer financial aid if:

  • Your total household income exceeds our thresholds
  • You have more than £16,000 in accessible savings
  • You are an unqualified law student or trainee

Tailored financial assistance (for instance day-to-day financial support or help with debts) may be available but is subject to financial eligibility criteria – which are, that you:

  • Have less than £16,000 in accessible savings
  • Have household income that is lower than the median Households Below Average Income (HBAI) figure for your household composition as calculated by us
  • Usually do not own any property other than your main home

We cannot consider support for:

  • Costs associated with running your business (eg indemnity insurance)
  • Business or partnership debts
  • Debts owing to family members or friends
  • Legal fees
  • Independent school fees
  • Most types of private medical treatment
  • Repayments of student loans
